Deborah Abbott (a k a The Lady Friend) captured this young white pine on the beach at Union Bay in the Porkies yesterday. The largest conifer in Michigan, this species of pine once was the backbone of the Upper Peninsula timber industry and, when mature, is a favorite place for bald eagles to build their nests.
