Last nuthatch of the season

RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, GREEN, MICHIGAN, OCTOBER 12, 2013

Pentax K-5
Pentax 55-300 at 300mm
1/400 sec. f7.1
ISO 3200

It was late afternoon and growing dark, and I needed a reasonably fast shutter speed to capture a good portrait of this quicksilver snatch-and-grab artist. Raising the ISO to 3200 gave enough speed, and denoising the image later in Lightroom 5 yielded an acceptable result.

It's been a few months since I've looked at your blog! Just spent about 30+ minutes looking at it! As always, you and Debra have posted some beautiful and interesting pictures! - the critters, the Native American's, houses, sunrises and sunsets ... and trains. Yes, I did get to ride the White Pass and Yukon for awhile last July. What scenery there in Alaska and the Yukon and British Columbia - even though most of what I got to see was the tourist stuff. Being high partial legally blind and somewhat arthritic (I'm a bit younger than you - I'm 69), I did have to somewhat limit what I was able to do). I took a bunch of pictures but nothing extraordinary. Thanks again for all the pictures that YOU post!
