The other day I attended the Joffrey Ballet with my Lady Friend. We sat in the balcony, affording a close look at the magnificently detailed ceiling illumination that graces Chicago's historic Auditorium Theater, designed by Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan and opened in 1889.

As a graduate of Roosevelt University, we had the distinction of being the first graduating class in the renovated auditorium (many years ago). After the work was completed, I remember being on a tour and the acoustics were demonstrated to us. A man stood on the stage and talked in a normal voice. We were up in the last row of the top balcony and heard him clearly. (No ambiant noise in the house; we were the only ones there.) Neat place.
